Mental Health and the First Responder: The Caretakers Need Care Too

Tom is the chief ranger at Missouri State Park Rangers, a fully sworn law enforcement agency tasked with policing Missouri State Parks. He retired from the Columbia Missouri Police Department as deputy chief of police after 26 years of service. He has always advocated for mental health resources for first responders, as well as crisis intervention and less lethal training for police officers who regularly encounter those in mental health crises. A career long trainer, he specializes in firearms, less lethal technology and Taser, and instructs in ethical force application to minimize the necessity for deadly force where possible.
